ВАLTECH GmbH - Balancing of multi-mode machines, rotors, shafts, cylinders and electric motors |
The new balancing device BALTECH VP-3470 series is designed for balancing in own bearings (1,2,3 or 4 planes balancing or multi-mode machines).
Let’s discuss balancing of multi-mode machines.
Many rotating machines are always operated at the same rotation speed during their whole service life. E.g. balancing of electric motors, cylinders or pump impellers is previously performed on the machines BALTECH HBM series. If they need trim balancing in operation, it is usually technically impossible to perform balancing at other rotation speed different from the operation rotation speed. Usually it is not required, because single-mode machines are to be balanced at their operation speed.
Besides it is often necessary to balance machines (electric motors, cylinders etc.), which are in operation at different rotation speed, e.g. traction electric motors, trams, trolley buses, electric trains etc. They have several (4 or more) fixed modes for rotation frequency, and there is certainly a question, at which frequency you have to perform balancing? There is no universal approach appropriate for machines of that type. This is due to the fact, that rotor behavior can be influenced by various factors with different impact on different machine types. But there are general rotor vibration trends due to rotor unbalance and rotation frequency of rotor balancing.
First of all general idea is, that after balancing of multi-mode rotors obtained vibration level is relevant only for the rotation frequency, at which rotor balancing was performed. In other words balancing at definite rotation frequency will not effectively reduce machine vibration level for the whole frequency range (if it is quite wide).
Secondly there is a definite quality reaction of multi-mode rotors to balancing in the selected frequency range. The new balancing device BALTECH VP-3470 is specially designed for rotor balancing of multi-mode machines.
From the above we can give the following recommendations for choice of frequency for balancing of multi-mode machines:
а) Firstly it is reasonably to balance rotors at the frequency, at which they have the highest vibration level or the highest excess over balancing tolerances.
б) In any case before as well as after balancing it is always necessary to check vibration behavior at all operation frequencies in order to exclude intolerable vibration level increase at frequencies, which differ from balancing frequencies (for the purpose you have to use the mode «Vibrometer» of the device).
в) If you deal with similar multi-mode machines, it makes sense to perform rotor balancing at several rotation frequencies (checking vibration level after each balancing at the whole frequency range). This allows finding optimal balancing mode.
We invite all technical specialists to our seminars and training courses ТОР-102 «Fundamentals for dynamic balancing in own bearings and on machines».
